Former PSA national committee member amongst those recognised in King’s Birthday Honours

Police officers, staff and volunteers from across the country have been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours.

Individuals from all ranks, and performing a wide range of roles within the policing family, have been awarded honours for their services to policing.

Those recognised include Detective Superintendent Dave McCaughrean, a former member of the PSA’s National Executive Committee (NEC), who has received a King’s Police Medal for his distinguished services to policing.

Starting his career with the Metropolitan Police in 1989, Dave transferred to Merseyside Police in 1995. He has been recognised throughout his career for bravery and professionalism, such as when apprehending a man for armed robbery, leading investigative teams through the most challenging operational incidents, such as the murder of 9-year-old girl, through to his role as a hostage negotiator.

Dave has provided exceptional senior leadership in critical policing areas such as public protection and safeguarding, and most recently, prior to his recent retirement, led teams in professional standards and anti-corruption.

Dave has been an active member of the PSA at a local, regional and national level, including as a member of the association’s NEC – its policy making body.

PSA Vice President Sara Crane said: “I would like to congratulate every member of the police family that has been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours. Each individual has given their time and dedication to supporting and helping others through policing, and these honours are such fitting recognition of their efforts.

“It is wonderful to see Dave McCaughrean being recognised for his 34 years’ of service. He has been described as a leader and role model to many, and we’re incredibly grateful for the time he has given to the association whilst serving as a superintendent.

“On behalf of everyone at the PSA, I share my warmest congratulations to Dave, and to every current and former police officer, member of police staff and police volunteer receiving these awards.”
