Association hosts LGBT+ leadership event

The Police Superintendents’ Association, working with the NPCC, College of Policing, Stonewall and the National LGBT+ Network, is holding a one-day LGBT CPD event at New Scotland Yard on 1st April 2019.

Public authorities have a duty in law to think about how their policies or decisions affect people who are protected under the Equality Act.

But beyond this, the service is striving to ensure it is an employer of choice where people can be themselves and perform at their best, and that it welcomes and values difference in all its forms.

For many years now, forces have made significant progress in areas such as BAME and gender: there are some excellent examples of work around LGBT inclusion, but it is still inconsistent and needs further support.

This event brings the senior LGBT champion from every force together for the first time.

Attendees will hear honest accounts from out LGBT colleagues of their experiences in force, and explore challenging questions about what forces can do to support LGBT staff and issues, create an environment where people can be themselves, and break down barriers.

It also provides an opportunity for attendees to meet experts who can help forces design best practice and bring about consistent, sustainable change.

Invitations have been sent to every force lead. If you would like to attend and have not received an invitation please contact Det Supt Clinton Blackburn, the Association’s LGBT rep: [email protected]
