At the PSA’s annual conference held in Stratford Upon Avon yesterday, Tuesday 14th September, PSA President Paul Griffiths presented Canon David Wilbraham, Chair of Trustees at the Police Roll of Honour Trust with £7,255 during the evening’s gala dinner and president’s awards ceremony.

Earlier this year, Paul walked the entire 265 miles of the Pennine Way during his annual leave to raise money for the charity, securing over £4,000.  A speaker at the PSA conference, John Beggs QC donated his fee to the fundraising total, alongside individual donations from the delegates attending conference.

Paul presented the cheque alongside PSA National Secretary Dan Murphy and Police Federation Chair John Apter who are both charity trustees.

The Police Roll of Honour Trust is the official and only source of the United Kingdom's Police Roll of Honour. The Trust's work was recognised and endorsed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by the Grant of Royal Charter. There is no government record of the men and women who lose their lives whilst serving the nation in police forces throughout the UK. The Trust relies entirely on donations to continue research, supporting families, restoring memorials to the fallen and other work.

Canon David Wilbraham said: “We’re a small charity that operates on a very limited budget, so this is a tremendous donation that will enable us to carry out new project work.

“We’re incredibly grateful for Paul’s time, efforts and generosity, and that of his family who supported him during the walk. We’re also very grateful for the sponsors, guests and speakers at this year’s PSA conference who all gave so generously.”

PSA President Paul Griffiths said: “It was a real pleasure to be able to present David with this fantastic sum of money for the charity.

“The work of the Roll of Honour Trust is so important and means we can formally remember and recognise the sacrifices made by police officers who have given their lives during the line of duty.  Thank you to David and all the volunteers who carry out this work, and thank you to everyone who donated towards our fundraising efforts.”
